A day in the life of a Remortgage Case Manager

Here at the ONP Group, we have amazing staff that work across a whole array of areas in the conveyancing industry. All of our colleagues have a different story to tell of their day-to-day life in the business including Grace, who is one of our remortgage case managers. We caught up with her to find out how she spends her days at ONP.

Before working as a remortgage case manager, Grace started working weekends at ONP Group at 18 doing admin work every Saturday and Sunday whilst at university, and in her second year, she did 5 weeks of work placement. Once she finished her degree in psychology and criminology, Grace went full-time as a conveyancing assistant!

As many people do, Grace starts her day with a strong cup of tea, or if she is in the office, she’ll have a fancy latte from the kitchen (The coffee machine is very popular in the office!). In a typical week, Grace tries to work every day with the same broad plan, log on, clear emails, and make notes from there on a notepad with a separate to-do list of anything that needs to be urgently done that morning. Organising her days is a big part of the role, especially at the start of the week, as Mondays are one of her completion days. She will try to do completions for the week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, so she has Tuesdays and Fridays for prepping and chasing her other files.

Working from home also provides a lot of benefits to Grace. On her lunch breaks, she will usually take around 45 minutes and get something to eat – and usually to nip out to return an ASOS parcel or run a quick errand! Occasionally Grace will also have coffee with some friends or family, which she feels is a massive benefit to her.

Working as a remortgage case manager is gratifying, and Grace says that the most rewarding thing about the role is being confident in her ability, and she loves learning new things as she goes. The role is fast-paced and part of the challenge is how to deal with it. The start and end of the month are when most things happen, and she starts planning a month usually two weeks in advance to ensure that she gets the job done right. When there is one week to go, she will look at what redemptions are outstanding and the last few days leading up to the start of next month are fast-paced with most time spent on the phone preparing many completions to take place in one day. However, Grace states that dealing with all these feels incredibly rewarding once they are done!

We asked Grace what her top tips are for being proactive with communication and she recommends having a phone call with a client to try and get everything done at once rather than going back and forth over email which saves a lot of hassle!
